LMAO. me, freshman year of highschool. those who have friends with me long enough should know.
Upon having a heated discussion on motherhood and women’s rights, and firmly giving my friend my opinion on women oppression present today she sent me the quote from Kate Chopin’s book The Awakening. The subconscious, or rather conscious, actions and beliefs of men dating centuries back in time has been a thought in my mind lately. I gave her my beliefs on ways that I did not ever want to live my life. I do not want to be the housewife that, at times, society almost normalizes as women’s responsibilities. I do not want to be the self-sacrificing mother that relies on the children to live their life. I do not want to be the one subjecting to my husband’s needs and live my life in the way that he wants me to live. I want to be my own person, make my own decisions, and live my own life. This may sound selfish in a way, but I just believe any self-respecting woman should make a CHOICE rather than just submitting to what either their husband’s, children’s, or society’s standards are. If at the end of everything my choice is that the things i enjoy most in life is to cook, clean and take care of children, so be it. But I do not want that to be what others have told me was right or was my responsibility. I, for now, want to be a career woman. I want to reach success and my aspirations as I see fit. I will take my responsibilities as a self-respecting woman to go through life knowing that I have the right to take control of my own life. I have the right to make decisions.
And this quote just made me realize it even more. “I would give up my life for my children; but I wouldn’t give myself.”
So my Macbook pro has just been shipped and so I checked Fedex to see how long it would take before it would be delivered to my house. And to my surprise Fedex.com indicated that the computer just left Shanghai, CN. So I was like why would it take Fedex 6 days to deliver my laptop from Connecticut………..Then it hit me. Connecticut is not CN, its CT…. My laptop is being delivered from CHINA. Oh my. I want it to get here as soon as possible :(.
